Musk Adds $76M to Midterm Push

A new filing shows a massive transfer from Musk to his political committee as a Texas Senate race tightens.

A new FEC filing has revealed a massive personal transfer from Elon Musk to his own political action committee. The report shows his committee received over $76 million in the first two weeks of October. The money is intended to support Republican candidates in the final stretch of the midterms. America PAC spent nearly $43 million during that period. The group also entered the campaign's last leg holding nearly $47 million in cash.

The Texas Senate race is the primary focus of the new spending. It drew $15.2 million in just two weeks, which is double what the PAC spent there all summer. That effort included $12.4 million to attack Democratic candidate James Talarico and $2.8 million to promote Republican Ken Paxton. Since that report, daily filings show $9.1 million more spent against Talarico. Total spending against him this cycle is now near $28 million. That is about 40 percent of all money the PAC has spent supporting or opposing candidates.

Musk's total giving to Republican political groups this cycle now exceeds $445 million. This makes him the largest known individual donor in the midterms. More than $165 million has gone to America PAC since July alone. The PAC declined to comment. The race for the Texas Senate seat remains very close. A recent poll found Talarico at 48 percent and Paxton at 46 percent. This is within the poll's 3-point margin of error.

The stakes for Musk reach beyond Texas. If Democrats win the House, committee leaders plan to investigate his role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and his companies' federal contracts. They have also flagged potential conflicts of interest. On Friday, other lawmakers added another target: SpaceX's Starshield satellite service in Ukraine. Three California representatives asked the White House for an investigation. They vowed that the next Congress will scrutinize federal funding for Musk's businesses.
