OpenAI Securing $30 Billion Funding at $1.25 Trillion Valuation
The AI firm's latest private financing round would set a record for the most valuable private company ever.

OpenAI is reportedly close to raising $30 billion in private funding at a pre-money valuation of $1.25 trillion. The round, led by Coatue and investors in the UAE, would make the AI company the most valuable private firm in history if completed. This potential valuation is a significant increase from its last private fundraising in March, which valued the ChatGPT maker at $852 billion post-money.
The move to secure another major private funding round comes as OpenAI has also filed confidential paperwork for an initial public offering in June. This new private capital would raise the bar for any future IPO, establishing an even higher valuation for the company to meet or exceed. OpenAI declined to comment on the matter.
Terms for this round are still under negotiation and could ultimately change. Previous reports suggested a different valuation. For instance, a month ago, Bloomberg reported the AI lab was working on raising the same amount at a $1.4 trillion valuation. The latest reports from CNBC state the round is being discussed at a $1.25 trillion pre-money valuation.
The involvement of investors in the UAE could also be tied to a separate agreement. Sources indicate that funding from the UAE could be coupled with a deal to provide OpenAI with more computing capacity from the country. The company's need for significant infrastructure to support its operations is a key part of its growth strategy.
A valuation exceeding $1 trillion for OpenAI would not only set a record for a private company but also impact its main competitor. Reports suggest Anthropic, which raised $65 billion at a $965 billion valuation in May, is seeking a $1.5 to $2 trillion valuation for its own IPO. Anthropic also filed confidential paperwork for an IPO in June, indicating it is closer to a public debut.
The competing fundraising efforts highlight the intense competition and high investor expectations within the AI sector. Both OpenAI and Anthropic are accumulating massive amounts of private capital ahead of their planned IPOs. The valuation OpenAI secures in this round will be a critical benchmark for the market as it prepares to go public.
